SDT Adds Capabilities in Keyword Test Automation
UTP enabled for .Net
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 1, 2004 – SDT, a company dedicated to transforming software testing, today announced Unified TestPro® 7.3 (UTP® 7.3), extending its testing capability to include .NET controls for .NET Frame Work 1.1 and support for Oracle 8i databases. UTP’s database-centric architecture enables all quality process stakeholders to leverage existing test assets for creating and maintaining test suites. UTP 7.3 provides its own input data table for faster access and retrieval, while still supporting Microsoft® Excel®. This latest release also includes the ability to compare bitmaps.
Software test groups must develop applications with fewer defects while meeting their business requirements and delivering them to market faster. Today’s automated testing tools rely on scripting or capture/playback techniques, which are time consuming, expensive, and platform specific while requiring a highly specialized technical skill set.
UTP leapfrogs these previous generations of test automation tools, allowing organizations to develop and run tests in less time, scale their tests across multiple projects and applications, and reduce their reliance on technical programmers. UTP’s Keyword-driven approach eclipses capture/playback and object-level scriptless tools by offering tests based on real business functions at a higher level of abstraction. As a result, initial test case development and maintenance costs are reduced by 50-60%. SDT has extended its powerful database-centric capabilities within UTP to allow for the automatic implementation of Keywords, quick responses to changes in applications under test and unique scaling capabilities.
“IT investments today require immediate ROI and ease of use for all stakeholders. Software testing has become a collaborative effort with development, test and subject matter experts all contributing to the quality of the applications. UTP’s roles-based architecture enables this collaboration and allows faster, more thorough testing,” said Edward Kit, founder and president of SDT, and a well-known industry leader, test expert, author and keynote speaker
The latest version of SDT’s popular UTP tool, UTP 7.3, adds to the already integrated Keyword-driven approach and development environment (IDE) by eliminating the need for not only additional third-party test --more-
execution tools but also third-party test case data entry tools. By adding support for the .NET environment, --- UTP now covers another of the key, emerging development technologies. UTP now encompasses .NET, Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications (VBA) development system, Win32 API (MFC) windows and objects, Web Objects (IE5.5 and above), and ActiveX Grids and tables.
UTP takes a roles-based approach, which separates, yet integrates, test design and automation, allowing application knowledge experts to design tests in parallel with the test automation experts who are implementing the Keywords. This reduces reliance on technical programmers and allows parallel processing and faster testing with broader application coverage. Tests are reusable and can scale across multiple projects and applications. UTP supports client/server, Web, API, mainframe, telecom, .NET and embedded software applications.
