Jerry Held: Executive Bio
Chairman of the Board
Jerry Held serves as Chairman for the Board of Directors for Software Development Technologies. Appointed in September 2003, Dr. Held, who has over 30 years of experience in building and managing enterprise software companies, will now work with SDT to expand its leading role in the software quality market.
Through 1997, Dr. Held was senior vice president of Oracle Corporation's server product division, leading a division of 1500 people and helping the company grow from $1.5 B to $6 B annually. Prior to Oracle, Held spent 18 years at Tandem Computer, where he was a member of the executive team that grew Tandem from a startup to a $2 B company. Throughout his tenure at Tandem, Dr. Held was appointed to several senior management positions, including Chief Technology Officer, senior vice president of strategy and vice president of new ventures. During his early years at Tandem, Dr. Held led numerous product development efforts including the design and implementation of Tandem's original relational database products.
Dr. Held is currently working to accelerate the growth of several early stage ventures. He is also a member of the board of directors of Business Objects (NASDAQ: BOBJ). In 1998, Dr. Held was "CEO-in-residence" at the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
Held has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue and a M.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, where he led the development of INGRES, one of the first relational database management systems.
